Kitchen Curtains

Yaya, the curtains are done!

Okay, so I am a wee bit proud of myself because I decided I am getting kitchen curtains a few weeks ago, when we went to buy some there just wasn't anything that called out to me. There was one that got me inspired to make my own (it was out of stock, of course). I don't like sewing curtains. Working with such big pieces of fabric I will almost always get some part of the hem uneven and it sticks out to me like a sore thumb. I try to remind myself to let it go and that most people aren't going to notice it like I do.

So once I had decided I was making my own, I thought about fabric and what I would want to do with it. I picked up the fabric on Thursday and got started on them late last night. It started off different, but as I was cutting fabric I changed the trim to be this more unique fabric that you see in the pictures - I love the colors and illustration - perfect for a kitchen. Before I was just going to do a red trim with white stitching.

Don't mind the ugly brown counter tops, we are in the middle of updating our kitchen. We have redone all the floors and painted. The brown counter tops will be going soon - I just got an estimate for replacing! I can't wait to get rid of it, it used to all be browns - the floor, the cabinets.. gah! And I love brown, this was just the 70's kind decor and it had to go!

It feels good to have it done!

Wall Clips for Kids or Kelly!

I got some fun wall clips this weekend from Land of Nod. I have been wanting them for a few months. I finally decided I would order them, telling myself "so what if they are meant for kids, they will be so fun in my studio!". I had a hard time picking out of the 3 designs (birds, flowers, stars). I almost went with the stars, and then got the flowers instead. They are pretty inexpensive and a nice touch to any kid OR adults room. I also did mine slightly different then they do, I had a shorter wall for one, so the string hangs a bit more, but I like it. The flower one (not photographed) is done like they do them.

(sorry the photos aren't great)

Determined Visitors

Woke up this morning to find a scold of jays out at the bird feeders. They were a bit oversized to use the feeders properly. So they were improvising. One Steller's Jay was quite determined. The challenge was even more so, because I have the pole "greased" up with some vaseline to keep the squirrels from climbing it. It was amusing and impressive. I had to share.

These birds have a rather annoying section in their song - it sounds like someone rubbing wood on a metal grater and it is loud! At What Bird you can look up all sorts of birds to find out facts or birds you might not recognize. Definitely a must view for bird lovers or even just the bird curious.

Illustration Friday - Momentum

Once I saw what the topic was for this week's IF, I thought of being a kid and all the ways you try to build up momentum and go fast and high, not matter at what cost your body had to pay.

I try to keep that spunky kid alive in me as I get older, I might not roll down a grassy hill at top speed, or let a friend spin me till I can't stand, or fly down a metal slide anymore, but I do like to feed that little hyper girl whenever possible, don't neglect the kid inside :)

Craft Inc.

Another book that I recently picked up and am enjoying immensely - Craft Inc. I saw it on Print+Pattern and immediately knew it was something I should be reading. It's very motivating and informative on what it takes to make a business creating things you love to do. So I would definitely suggest this to anyone thinking about pursuing their own creative business venture. I am sooo glad I did.

Illustration Friday - Alphabets

B is for Birds and Bunnies :)

This was an illustration I did for a project that I ended up not using. But I still liked it and thought it would work for this weeks topic and I didn't want to miss posting this week.
